Nation (Brisbane)

One Nation leader PAULINE HANSON has thanked her supporters after repaying half the
$500,000 she owes the Queensland Electoral Commission.

Ms HANSON says the financial backing she's received indicates Australians want her
to remain in politics.

One Nation was deregistered last year because the party artificially boosted membership
figures to qualify for electoral funding for the 1998 state election.

The decision by the Queensland Supreme Court put Ms HANSON at risk of bankruptcy with
the branch owing more than $500,000 to the commission.

The former federal MP established a fighting fund and asked supporters to help.

Ms HANSON yesterday handed over a cheque for $250,000 to the Ipswich branch of the
ANZ Bank -- part payment of the debt which must be repaid by the December 31 deadline.

She's told ABC radio she now has a few months to try and raise the balance plus about
$150,000 for legal bills.

Ms HANSON says she'll stand for the Senate at the next election if she can avoid bankruptcy.

Meanwhile, One Nation Queensland director MORRIE MARSDEN says he'll re-register the
party at the commission's Brisbane offices on Thursday.

He says One Nation will also mount an appeal in the High Court against the deregistration
at a later date.
