CELEBRANTS DOLLED UP FOR BIG EVENING OUT.(Main)

Tuesday night's opening gala celebrating Albany's newest architectural addition, the Knickerbocker Arena, will go down as one of the most memorable experiences for many of the people who got gussied up in black tie and paid $150 to hobnob with one another throughout the evening.

It was cheek-to-jowl. The mega-bash brought out a blend of the hoi polloi and the Capital District's movers and shakers. Gala patrons dressed in everything from evening gowns and elegant cocktail dresses to daywear for those who had no choice but to come from work.

Jim and Ruth Maloy of Loudonville were among the first patrons on the scene. When Jim accidently spilled his wife's drink while greeting a friend, Ruth quipped, "Well, Jim, you just christened the area."
